Team Vamos / Education Promoters

Education is not easily achieved in this area. First through 8th grade schools are public and free, however, most schools are severally overcrowded and many teachers are either not “present” or effective. Most boys, roughly 70%, make it to 5th grade. Most girls make it to 4th grade when their fathers end their formal education to go to work on the finca, gathering wood or watching younger siblings.

Our Education Promoters visit schools and homes to check children’s progress and resolve concerns with teachers, principals and parents, encouraging parents to keep their children in school and encouraging children to remain in school. They coordinate the distribution of educational materials and award scholarships to children who otherwise could not afford school, books or supplies.
